"The impacts of climate change, such as rising temperatures, extreme weather, and deteriorating air quality, have become a reality for people across the world," Sadewa remarked in Depok, West Java, on Friday.
He pointed out that the negative impacts had affected people's health, the agriculture sector, and food security, prompting members of the public to take initiatives by adopting eco-friendly practices and supporting policies that promote the use of new and renewable energy.
At the competition held at Telkom University of Bandung, West Java, on September 28, Sadewa and Wiradarma delved deep into issues related to energy transition, renewable energy, and the impacts of climate change on people during the British Parliamentary-style debate.
Wiradarma expressed belief that the championship could help raise people's awareness of the vital role they should play in environmental preservation.
The champion stated that the event was expected to encourage people to identify and apply green solutions in tackling climate change in everyday life and push for the implementation of eco-friendly policies.
"The awareness of individuals and communities about their role in preserving the environment is the key to dealing with climate crises and creating a more sustainable future," he remarked.
Before performing in the competition, the pair made optimal preparations by undergoing intensive training to sharpen their arguments and hone their debating capacity.
Dean of the Administrative Faculty Chandra Wijaya praised the two champions while expressing hope that their feat would motivate other students in the faculty to continue pursuing achievements.
"This achievement demonstrates the University of Indonesia's support for youngsters dedicating themselves to environmental preservation and energy transition," he remarked.
