"We want to ensure that no children in Central Kalimantan cannot receive education just because of cost," he said here on Tuesday.
The free education program will cover more than 97 thousand students at high schools, vocational schools, and schools for children with special needs.
In addition, it will cover 10 thousand students at 32 public and private universities in the province. The province is also offering the Tabe Berkah Scholarship Program covering 20 thousand college students.
With the free education program, all high school graduates in Central Kalimantan can pursue higher education without needing to think about the cost, Sabran said.
He claimed that it is the only program in the country to guarantee free education up to the undergraduate level.
"With the free school and college programs, students can study without worrying about costs. After graduating from high school, they can immediately continue to college for free until they complete their bachelor's degree," he explained.
The Central Kalimantan provincial government is also providing infrastructure and facility assistance to schools in remote areas to improve the quality of education.
Sabran said that local governments are also providing additional income of up to Rp3 million (US$190) for certified teachers in remote areas and Rp2 million (US$126) in urban areas.
The governor added that the bonus for teachers is aimed at improving the welfare of educators so that they will be more enthusiastic in creating a superior generation.
