Member of Commission IX of the House of Representatives (DPR) Achmad Ru'yat urged the Ministry of Manpower to collect data on companies currently experiencing a business slowdown to protect them from bankruptcy.
"We would like to urge the Manpower Ministry to make an inventory of companies grappling with a business slowdown and aid them so they can run their businesses properly," he remarked during a meeting with the ministry at the Parliamentary Complex, Jakarta, on Wednesday.
Ru'yat made the call in response to the bankruptcy ruling issued by the Semarang District Court of Commerce in Central Java for an Indonesian textile giant PT Sri Rejeki Isman, or Sritex.
The legislator emphasized that it is indeed mandatory for the government to take concrete actions to aid Sritex and its employees and prevent similar business disasters from befalling other firms in the country.
"The phenomenon involving Sritex should be an alarm for the government. Therefore, we would like to request information on the government's concrete steps to address the problems at Sritex," he pointed out.

Earlier, on Tuesday (October 29), Manpower Minister Yassierli stated that President Prabowo Subianto had instructed his ministers to move to prevent Sritex employees from being laid off and ensure that the garment company can continue operating as usual.
The minister referenced President Prabowo's commitment to preventing job losses, noting that companies facing difficulties have the option to appeal the district court's decision, making layoffs unnecessary.
"They (Sritext) have not (gone bankrupt). This means there will be a cassation process, and we believe that layoffs will not happen," the minister elaborated.
Yassierli made the remarks during a press conference after attending a limited meeting with President Prabowo, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati.
