"The role of young believers of faith in God Almighty is important, as the young believers stand in the front line in preserving cultural and religious diversity in Indonesia," an official at the directorate, Suharti, remarked.
Speaking at a seminar on holders of native beliefs followed virtually from Jakarta on Thursday, Suharti noted that members of the young generation with such beliefs could contribute to the nation's harmony and unity through cultural approaches.
She affirmed that young believers are mandated to play an active role in ensuring the sustainability of the cultures of their ancestors.
"That way, the young holders of beliefs can also introduce (their beliefs and cultures) to a broader population. There is no doubt that these young people contribute to the enrichment of Indonesia's national cultures," she remarked.
The official further noted that young native belief holders also have the potential to actively promote acts of tolerance, becoming role models of mutual respect by introducing their faiths along with the virtuous values the faiths endorse.
"Of course, these young people can play the role of a facilitator of interfaith dialogues expected to build better understanding among different communities for the sake of social harmony," she elaborated.
Through such measures, she stated that young holders of beliefs will be able to help Indonesian people create an even stronger national character and respect differences.
"This way, young native faith believers can also endorse policies that are inclusive to people from all social levels, regardless of their backgrounds," Suharti concluded.
