Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya stated that the creative economy has huge potential to support Indonesia's economic independence.

"Indonesia's creative economy has 17 sub-sectors that have strengths and experience extraordinary development from time to time," Harsya noted in his official statement here on Saturday.

At a meeting with Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar in Jakarta on Friday (November 1), Harsya also highlighted that the creative economy can serve as an important pillar in the efforts to achieve national development goals.

The ministry's data found that the export value of Indonesia's creative economy products in 2023 reached USD23.96 billion, or 88.91 percent of the determined target.

Meanwhile, the creative economy added value in 2023 had reached Rp1,414.8 trillion (or around USD89.9 billion), or 110.44 percent of the target.

Considering these achievements and huge potential, President Prabowo Subianto specifically established the Creative Economy Ministry in his cabinet nomenclature.

This step is expected to strengthen the creative economy's position as a crucial foundation in supporting the government's goals, especially in terms of economic independence, job creation, and the development of innovation-based economic sectors.

In addition, based on Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 139 of 2024 concerning the Arrangement of Duties and Functions of State Ministries in the Red and White Cabinet for the 2024-2029 Period, six ministries come under the auspices of the Coordinating Ministry for Community Empowerment, one of which is the Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency.

"With the support of and collaboration with the Coordinating Ministry for Community Empowerment, the creative economy sector is expected to continue to significantly provide added value to the Indonesian economy," Harsya stated.
