Jakarta (ANTARA) - People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Deputy Hidayat Nur Wahid reminded Foreign Minister Sugiono to maintain the performance of his predecessor, Retno Marsudi, especially in defending Palestine.

"Good work must be maintained, even improved, and momentum for that is very open, with the global phenomenon of defending Palestine and rejecting Israel," Wahid noted in a statement received in Jakarta on Saturday.

He drew emphasis on this aspect, citing a commitment to implementing the 1945 Constitution and the need to maintain the dignity of the United Nations and save civilization and the international legal community.

Meanwhile, he expressed hope that the Indonesian Government, under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto, can be one of the pioneers in the UN to impose sanctions, specifically revoking Israel's membership status.

He highlighted that this stance aligns with President Prabowo's inaugural pledge to support the Palestinian cause.

Moreover, he drew attention to the emergence of a global movement by experts and practitioners of international law, international relations, and similar fields in various countries advocating for the revocation of Israel's UN membership.

"This further confirms that in recent years, more and more intellectuals are realizing that Israel's behavior essentially reflects colonialism, genocide, and human rights violations," he stated.
