"We are dreaming of an advanced Indonesia, the realization of which requires a mindset and attitude that are oriented towards science," he told lawmakers during a meeting with Commission X of the House of Representatives (DPR) in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Brodjonegoro expressed belief that a person whose mindset and behavior are attuned to science wields the potential to excel at the global level.
"The realization of the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision requires the presence of globally competitive talents that are capable of shooting up the country's economic growth to eight percent," he stated while referring to the economic target set by President Prabowo Subianto.
To that end, he said the newly established Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology is determined to take measures to support research and development activities to foster the culture of science among citizens.
During a public hearing with Commission X on Tuesday (November 5), Secretary of the University of Indonesia, Agustin Kusumayati, highlighted that universities around the world tend to rely on the quality and impacts of the research they conduct to prove their international value.
On that note, she emphasized that research by universities could also play a notable role in a country's journey toward achieving national progress and advancement.
Hence, to this end, the academician urged the government to support Indonesian universities to intensify research activities.
