In a statement on Thursday, Dewi urged candidates running in the 2024 Jakarta Special Region Regional Head Election (Pilkada) to prepare the free education program realistically and in accordance with the needs of the entire community.
"While a free education program is feasible for the government to implement, there are several critical factors to consider, such as the financing mechanism and up-to-date data on target beneficiaries," she said.
She also emphasized the importance of carefully preparing the necessary human resources and infrastructure for the policy, as well as ensuring the quality of education after its implementation.
Aulia pointed out that quality education for the broader population can improve living standards, create more opportunities, and foster a knowledgeable, competitive generation.
Furthermore, she stressed the crucial role of the government in overseeing the national education sector, particularly in areas such as regulation, infrastructure provision, and curriculum development.
She also highlighted the role of families in supporting their children’s learning and development, as well as the responsibility of the community in creating an environment conducive to educational activities.
"Education is a shared responsibility — not just of the government, but also of families, communities, the private sector, and all relevant stakeholders," she said.
The Jakarta provincial government is reportedly planning to waive entrance fees, registration fees, and other administrative fees at private schools starting next year.
