"TPBIS holds a very strategic value in social and economic transformation, as it serves as a sustainable and inclusive program that is oriented towards enhancing the quality of human resources," Perpusnas' Deputy for Library Resource Development, Adin Bondar, remarked on Thursday.
Speaking at the National Peer Learning Meeting 2024 observed virtually from Jakarta, Bondar highlighted that the program has been emulated by regional governments, including in the Maros District of South Sulawesi Province.
On that note, Bondar stated that regional governments have begun viewing the program as a strategic instrument for controlling inflation, alleviating poverty, and reducing stunting prevalence.
The official then elaborated that the TPBIS program had involved about four million people throughout the 2018-2023 period, resulting in improvements in the economy and capacity of rural residents.
"We are aiming to carry on this program for the 2025-2029 period," he noted.
Furthermore, he underlined that the practices of the TPBIS program had drawn international attention, evidenced by the participation of 22 delegates from Colombo Plan countries in a comparative study of the program in Yogyakarta in August 2024.
Apart from the TPBIS program, he noted that Perpusnas has also continued to echo the Indonesia Reading Movement, which seeks participation from teachers, parents, and students.
"The movement, which encourages participants to read and review books in a week, has been implemented in 20 provinces across Indonesia," he elaborated.
Earlier, Perpusnas acting head E. Aminudin Aziz remarked that his side is open to receiving suggestions about books that need to be distributed to public reading parks.
"Members of the public are welcome to give book suggestions, telling us what kind of books they need to hone the skills they desire," he stated during a meeting with Commission X of the House of Representatives (DPR) in Jakarta on Wednesday (November 6).
He explained that the provision and distribution of the books needed by people reflect the implementation of the TPBIS program.
