Jakarta (ANTARA) - The 2024 International Conference on Religious Moderation (ICROM), which took place in Jakarta, produced a number of recommendations for the development of religious moderation, which can be used as guidelines by policy makers.

"We hope that ideas, innovations, and research results can be the basis for policy makers to make policies that are innovative, have a real impact, and are solution-oriented," head of the Islamic religious understanding and conflict management sub-directorate of the Ministry of Religious Affairs , Dedi Slamet Riyadi, said in a statement released here on Friday.

He informed that ICROM was organized with the aim of integrating academia and research with government policies so that ideas and innovations generated by intellectuals can lead to concrete solutions for society.

According to one of the recommendations produced during the conference, religious moderation needs to continue to be developed so that it not only covers the issue of harmony, but also promotes deliberation on its relevance in ensuring there is no discrimination against any religion or belief.

"Second, religious moderation can be a framework for solving global problems (ranging) from security issues, socioeconomic gaps, and climate change," Riyadi said.

Third, religious moderation can be the basis for establishing a meeting space for groups adhering to different religions and beliefs to talk about solutions to environmental problems and climate change.

Fourth, government's efforts to build religious moderation should not only be restricted to program implementation, but also focus on evaluation, more particularly on finding ways to promote moderate religious views among the society.

Lastly, religious moderation should also cover economic and community empowerment, in addition to harmony and tolerance.

According to Riyadi, the realization of effective religious moderation requires close cooperation among stakeholders.
