While giving directives at the coordination meeting to evaluate primary and secondary education on Monday, Gibran emphasized that schools must serve as safe havens for teachers and students.
"School must be a safe and comfortable place for teachers and students," he pointed out. "No more cases of violence, bullying, and teacher criminalization."
Gibran emphasized that the Child Protection Law should serve its intended purpose, not become a means to prosecute teachers.
Therefore, he urged the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to promote the enactment of the Teacher Protection Law.
Legal protection for teachers can create a sense of security and freedom to educate students to be more disciplined, he added.
"We need to promote the enactment of the Teacher Protection Law. This way, teachers can feel comfortable and have the freedom to educate students with more discipline, but there must be a law and protection for this," Gibran remarked.
Meanwhile, Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu'ti stated that education office heads from all regions participated in the coordination meeting.
The evaluation meeting was held to review and improve the effectiveness of the policies implemented by his ministry to date.
Two main issues were discussed at the event: the zoning policy and new student admission system (PPDB), and the policy regarding teachers who are contract-based civil servants (PPPK).
"These are two issues that become quite polemic in the community," Mu'ti said.
