"We express our deep concern and condolences to the people affected in the Cipularang Toll Road KM 92 accident that happened yesterday," Maharani stated in the House's official statement here on Tuesday.
Though human error may have played a role in the collision sequence, Maharani pointed to the weather factor -- specifically rain-slickened roads -- as a significant contributing factor.
In response to this incident, she called for stronger government action on accident prevention, with special attention to toll road infrastructure improvements.
Moreover, she drew attention to the fact that the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) had confirmed the La Nina pattern in Indonesia and issued warnings for potential extreme weather this week in several regions.
The BMKG has issued warnings for potential moderate to heavy rains in some parts of the country.
"It is important for the government to increase its readiness to face dynamic natural challenges," the House speaker emphasized.
According to Maharani, the government should strengthen the accurate early warning system in disaster-prone areas so that residents can anticipate emergencies caused by extreme weather.
"The government needs to immediately take concrete and comprehensive actions to prevent the risk of casualties and greater damage due to the extreme weather that is currently impacting Indonesia," she stated.
Maharani called on the government and related agencies to effectively utilize social media, operate sirens in vulnerable areas, and disseminate information about extreme weather risks on mobile apps to minimize the impact of extreme weather.
