The dialogue is being held from November 12–15, 2024.
According to a statement issued by the Manpower Ministry here on Wednesday, for the dialogue, government representatives, entrepreneurs, workers, and experts from the two countries have come together to discuss strategic issues related to employment sector dynamics.
"This forum is the manifestation of our collaborative efforts in braving global employment challenges," the ministry's secretary general, Anwar Sanusi, said in the statement.
"This dialogue is expected to facilitate us to exchange thoughts and experiences to respond to rapid changes in the employment sector," he added.
He observed that Indonesia and Switzerland will likely face even more complex employment challenges as a result of environmental issues as well as developments in digital economy and artificial intelligence (AI).
The ongoing dialogue has been designed to spotlight three primary topics — digital economic platforms and AI, just transition, and demographic changes, he said.
Drawing attention to AI, he highlighted that sophisticated technology can help increase productivity and has the potential to replace the role of humans in some positions.
Bearing that in mind, he emphasized the need to formulate and implement a policy that can help ensure the optimization of AI and protection of workers.
Regarding the transition to the green economy, Sanusi highlighted that it is crucial to take the fate and welfare of workers in the traditional energy sector into consideration when pursuing the transition from fossil-based energy to renewable energy.
Such a transition should be implemented in tandem with providing people with training programs to help them augment their capacity and skills, he added.
He then affirmed that the Ministry of Manpower will continue to build synergy and collaboration with all parties to face current and future employment challenges.
Furthermore, Sanusi expressed the hope that the dialogue will pave the way for even stronger ties between Indonesia and Switzerland and help the two countries to identify a more inclusive and responsive approach to address employment issues.
