Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Committee for Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) has urged the United Nations to revoke Israel's membership over Tel Aviv's military maneuvers that have claimed many victims.

"Expel Israel from the UN because the genocide carried out by the Israeli military continues, and more and more victims are falling," the committee's chairperson, Mardani Ali Sera, said in a statement released on Thursday.

According to Sera, Israel has violated the UN Charter, which emphasizes peace, respect for human rights, and international cooperation.

The UN Charter states that the main purpose of the UN is to maintain international peace and security, develop friendly relations between nations, and resolve disputes peacefully, he said.

"So it is time for the UN to act decisively, expel Israel, and we agree to isolate Israel from the international community," he added.

He also asked the UN to pay heed to international calls on Israel, including the one made after the joint extraordinary Arab and Islamic Summit held in Riyadh recently.

"The Arab League-OIC Summit has issued a resolution to freeze Israel's membership of the UN. Indonesia and other countries have firmly requested that Israel be expelled," he said.

In line with government policy, the House of Representatives is continuing to support Palestine through international diplomacy.

At the 10th G20 Parliamentary Speaker's Summit (P20) in Brazil, House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani sought peace in Palestine and expressed support for humanitarian access for war victims.

She emphasized that a ceasefire is highly necessary, and all parties can provide much-needed humanitarian assistance in Gaza.

As countries with leading economies, Maharani said, the G20 must boldly take the lead by setting an example in improving the world's focus and priorities.

"We must strive to realize a two-state solution. War and conflict are not inevitable. But this is a matter of political decision, whether we want to go to war or make peace," she added.
