Hafid informed that Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Abdul Mu'ti, has discussed the plan to introduce coding as a subject in schools.
"Yes, just like what he (Minister Mu'ti) said before. We have agreed to present coding subject in the school curriculum," she said at a door-stop interview here on Wednesday.
According to the minister, further discussions regarding the inclusion of coding as a subject in school curriculums also need to involve the relevant ministries and agencies.
"Whether the module will be drafted together with the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, which we have been doing so far, we still need to discuss this," she informed.
The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Kemkomdigi), formerly the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo), has prepared several modules to boost the digital literacy of school students, including a module on coding.
In 2022, the Kominfo Human Resources Development Agency introduced coding to elementary school students through an event entitled "Data Science for Kids."
The activity for young students covered the introduction of data science, data utilization, and the use of simple coding.
As previously reported on Monday, during a coordination meeting on primary and secondary education evaluation, Minister Mu'ti presented a plan to introduce artificial intelligence (AI) and coding as subjects in school curriculums.
"We have a plan to renew the curriculum and add AI and coding as optional subjects in schools that are able to implement them," he said.
