Jakarta (ANTARA) - The airfare reduction task force is continuing to comprehensively study the plan for lowering airfares through a balanced policy that benefits the people and the aviation industry, Spokesperson of the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation Elba Damhuri said here Friday.

Currently, the ministry is still waiting for recommendations on the affordable airline ticket policy, which are still being discussed by the task force. The task force comprises parties from several ministries.

The ministry has also provided a number of inputs for consideration to ensure affordable airfares for the community. At the same time, it is continuing to pay attention to the sustainability of the national aviation industry.

"When the recommendations are out, the Ministry of Transportation will convey the information to the public transparently, likewise about when the reduction in ticket prices can be carried out," he informed.

In addition to conducting a joint study with the task force, the Ministry of Transportation is intensively and consistently making other efforts to stabilize airfares.

They include holding intensive discussions with airlines. Airlines are expected to pursue efficiencies and make innovations to make ticket prices more affordable.

Airline tickets consist of several components such as distance tariffs, taxes, mandatory insurance contributions, and surcharge fees. Therefore, to reduce flight prices, the involvement of various parties is needed.

"The Ministry of Transportation always tries to listen to the aspirations of the community. Currently, the government continues to make efforts to reduce the flight prices to make them cheaper," he said.
