During their meeting at the Bali International Airshow 2024 in Badung, Bali, on Wednesday, Luhut referenced an earlier statement by Fernandes about Indonesia's jet fuel prices being the highest in Southeast Asia.
"I have looked into the fuel pricing structure," Luhut said, adding that he has instructed his deputy to investigate the reasons behind the high cost of Indonesia's aviation fuel.
He noted that Indonesia should emulate Singapore's measures to keep aviation fuel prices reasonable.
"There must be a hidden cost we need to address," he added.
Earlier on August 5, Fernandes had highlighted several obstacles to airlines offering more affordable domestic airfares in Indonesia, including high aviation fuel costs, which are 28 percent higher than in other ASEAN countries.
He noted that aviation fuel prices in Indonesia are relatively higher than in other countries worldwide.
In response, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno said on September 10 that the government will consider his remarks as input for deliberation.
"We have received input from Tony Fernandes through the media, and it has become part of our findings," he said.
Uno, involved in the task force on reducing flight ticket prices, noted that cross-ministerial efforts are underway to lower domestic airfares by at least 10 percent by October this year.
