Trade Minister Budi Santoso, at a working meeting with Commission VI of the House of Representatives (DPR) here on Wednesday, said that his side has prepared steps to maintain price stability.
One of them is intensively coordinating with ministries/agencies as well as local governments to control inflation.
The Trade Ministry will also ensure the availability and the smooth distribution of basic necessities throughout Indonesia and step up the monitoring of prices.
Santoso informed that price monitoring is being carried out through the Staple Commodity Market Monitoring System (SP2KP) to detect indications of unnatural price increases early.
"We are also actively coordinating with business actors, including with the people's market associations throughout Indonesia to ensure price stability and the availability of basic necessities during the Christmas-New Year period," he said.
Santoso informed that the Ministry of Trade will also continue to seek to increase the competitiveness of domestic products through various measures.
Those measures, he said, include supporting product development, protecting the domestic market, and managing the import system.
Furthermore, the ministry is providing assistance to business actors to obtain product certifications so that domestic-made products can compete in the global market.
In addition, his side is carrying out trade supervision measures, such as implementing anti-dumping import duties and tightening security measures for certain imported products that have the potential to disrupt the domestic industry.
Lastly, he assured that the Trade Ministry is applying a transparent and measurable import trading policy and coordinating with the relevant ministries and government agencies to ensure that imports are carried out in keeping with the law and regulations.
