"The energy transition is not only crucial for reducing climate change, but also for securing energy supplies and maintaining economic growth," he said during the meeting in Jakarta on Thursday, according to a statement from his office.
He said his ministry is working with Swaniti Global and the Green South Alliance - Energy Transition (Indonesia Chapter) to address energy challenges and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in South Asia and Indonesia.
During the meeting, stakeholders discussed efforts and best practices to advance the energy transition toward a sustainable and equitable energy future.
Sustainable development efforts include an energy transition aimed at increasing the use of renewable energy in various economic activities by 2025.
Examples include implementing a broad carbon credit policy, shifting fossil fuel subsidies to renewable energy subsidies, and promoting the use of electric vehicles.
On the same occasion, the ministry's Deputy for Maritime Affairs and Natural Resources, Vivi Yulaswati, explained the concept of the 'Energy Trilemma,' which highlights three main challenges in the energy transition.
The first challenge, she said, is ensuring the security of energy supplies in each country. The second is securing access to affordable energy, and the third is increasing energy use sustainably and equitably.
Representatives of the Indian parliament attending the event called for addressing the energy transition challenges as a shared responsibility.
"The purpose of this alliance is to see how countries can support each other, how we can become allies in the Global South to really drive innovation," said Swaniti Global CEO Rwitwika Bhattacharya.
The multi-stakeholder agenda highlighted key points, including the urgent need for increased climate finance, a knowledge-sharing platform, and a stronger policy framework.
