Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Tourism Ni Luh Puspa stated that the Garuda Indonesia Travel Festival (GATF) 2024 is expected to boost the trips of domestic tourists within the country ahead of Christmas and New Year.

"It supports the community who want to travel during the Christmas and New Year holidays with special prices provided by Garuda (Indonesia's flag carrier)," the deputy minister stated at the GATF 2024 opening in Jakarta on Friday.

Puspa highlighted that her ministry is participating in the event this year by opening the Wonderful Indonesia booth.

The ministry also invited domestic tourism industry players, such as Tanjung Lesung Resort, KAI Wisata, Jatim Park Group, and PT Bale Laut Indonesia, to promote tourist destinations in Indonesia.

In addition, the Ministry of Tourism collaborated with the Ministry of Creative Economy by presenting WonderVerse Indonesia, a 3D animation game to promote the creative economy sector through the virtual world.

Puspa expressed hope that GATF 2024 will also serve as a forum for collaboration with tourism industry players to promote Indonesia's super priority destinations so that more tourists can visit them and contribute to the strategic target of boosting the tourism sector in 2024.

"Hopefully, there will be more people attending it and contributing to strategic targets in the tourism sector in 2024, such as increasing foreign tourist arrivals, trips of domestic tourists, increasing tourism revenue, and opening new jobs," she remarked.

Garuda Indonesia and state-owned bank Bank Mandiri are holding GATF 2024 from November 29 to December 1, which features 100 tenants of travel agencies, accommodation businesses, and transportation service providers, among others.

Puspa noted that the GATF targets 50 thousand visitors with a transaction value of Rp100 billion (around USD6.3 million).
