Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian American Football Association (AAFI) is looking to secure a spot for the Indonesian team in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, according to AAFI chairperson Pandu Satya Pambudi.

"Insya Allah (God willing), we can qualify for LA 2028 with the competition results that are quite good and the development of human resources that we have planned earlier," he said on Saturday.

He explained that the possibility of Indonesia qualifying for the 2028 LA Olympics is significant, but to qualify for the Olympics requires hard work and step-by-step progress.

He also noted that the Indonesian national team is currently in the top 25 in the Asia-Oceania region.

"In terms of opportunities, we are currently in the top 25 in the Asia-Oceania (IFAF Flag Football World Championships) 2023, which is 25 out of about 40 countries. Now, our target for next year is to increase to the top 20," Pambudi said.

"In 2026, we will participate in the World Championship held by IFAF. This is part of the LA 2028 selection process, targeting the top 15," he added.

To qualify for the 2028 LA Olympics, AAFI plans to develop human resources by providing intensive training to players, coaches, and referees.

In addition, AAFI is planning to send several teams to compete in international championships, both at the Southeast Asian and Asia-Oceania levels.

"We are focusing not only on developing players but also on referees and coaches. We aim to develop infrastructure, facilities, and incorporate sports science.," Pambudi said.
