Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi affirmed that his side is striving to lower the price of airfares for the 2024 Christmas and New Year 2025 holiday period.

"In order to optimize airline ticket prices during the Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025 period, coordination meetings have been held across ministries, state agencies, and stakeholders, with an agreement to provide incentive for the economy class of domestic flights," he remarked here on Wednesday.

During the work meeting with Commission V of the House of Representatives (DPR) at the parliament complex here on Wednesday, the minister stated that the government has agreed to provide discounts on aviation fuel.

Purwagandhi affirmed that the government would cut down the selling prices of aviation fuel at 19 airports, with a price range of Rp700 per liter to Rp980 per liter. The discount on aviation fuel will be provided until the end of December this year.

In addition, the government offers another instrument to lift the aviation industry, specifically targeting economy-class domestic routes, by implementing a fuel surcharge reduction from 10 percent to two percent for jet aircraft and from 25 percent to 20 percent for propeller-driven planes.

The Transportation Ministry has also opened the option to extend airport operational hours and flight navigation services to provide round-the-clock coverage.

Furthermore, the government provides a 50 percent cut for the Aircraft Passenger Services (PJP2U) and Aircraft Landing, Placement, and Storage Services (PJP4U) fees.

Minister Purwagandhi stated that the effort to reduce air ticket prices could be realized through collaboration across ministries and stakeholders to support public accessibility through air transportation.
