"An inter-ministerial discussion (about the decree) is still on. Hopefully, the regulation will be ready by this December," he said after attending the Indonesia Mining Summit 2024 in Jakarta on Wednesday.
He added that the decree will regulate the formation of the task force, which will focus on 36 commodities, including those in the agriculture and pharmaceutical sectors.
Meanwhile, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said that the task force will be tasked with the simplification of licensing affairs, and ultimately, supporting efforts to boost the value of the determined commodities.
"Mr. President (Prabowo Subianto) is fixated on downstreaming. Thus, it is necessary to form a task force, which will involve technical ministries," he remarked at the summit.
Lahadalia said that he will lead the task force to align and fast-track downstreaming efforts at the Investment and Downstreaming Ministry, Forestry Ministry, Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture, and Industry Ministry.
"The President demands swift processes. Hence, we decided to establish a task force," he added.
He further elaborated on the government's maneuver, saying that the formation of the task force is driven by the difficulty in obtaining permits for the sectors prioritized for downstreaming.
The challenging permits include the Borrow-to-Use Forest Area Permit (IPPKH), Environmental Impact Analysis (Amdal), and Work and Cost Plan (RKAB).
In his Asta Cita vision (Eight Primary Missions), President Prabowo has highlighted the need for Indonesia to continue downstreaming and industrializing its natural resources in the hopes of creating more jobs and bringing about economic justice.
