Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Transportation will provide free motorcycle shipments by train during the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays.

The free homecoming program will open with 5,300 seats and 2,320 motorbike slots.

Registrations for the program will remain open on the website motis.djka.kemenhub.go.id and designated registration posts until December 28, 2024.

"Registration period starts from December 1 to December 28, 2024. While departures start from December 20 to 29, 2024," the ministry's Director of Traffic and Railway Transportation Arif Anwar informed on Saturday.

He said that the program will cover the following routes: Jakarta Gudang-Lempuyangan via Jakarta Gudang Station, Cirebon Prujakan Station, Purwokerto Station, Kutoarjo Station, and Lempuyangan Station (vice versa).

His party has prepared eight registration stations at Jakarta Gudang, Tangerang, Bekasi, Depok Baru, Cirebon Prujakan, Purwokerto, Kutoarjo, and Lempuyangan.

At the registration stations, participants can hand over their motorbikes to be sent to Jakarta Gudang Station and transported to the designated station.

Participants will be required to furnish their identity card, family card, and driving license type C, along with their motorbike. The maximum motorbike engine capacity allowed for the program is 200 cc.

One motorbike shipment can be facilitated with the purchase of two adult passenger tickets and one infant ticket (children under three years old).

The name on the train ticket must match the name registered at the motorbike shipment, while the second passenger must be listed on the participant's family card.

Cancellation, rescheduling, and changes in the passenger names are now allowed for tickets purchased.

Participants are not allowed to leave helmets and mirrors, and fuel must be emptied from the motorbike at the time of the handover.

With these requirements, the ministry is hoping the motorbike shipment program will run smoothly and provide convenience to homecomers so that they do not have to worry about bringing motorbikes during the trip.
