Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army (TNI-AD), General Maruli Simanjuntak, has assured that his side will support the National Police (Polri) in maintaining security during the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays.

"The leading sector is the police. We are backing them up; I do not think there will be a problem," he said after inaugurating the National Judo Kasad Cup here on Friday.

He informed that the army has experience in securing the Christmas-New Year holidays. Some of the security activities it carried out earlier included guarding vital objects and crowd centers as well as conducting routine patrols.

However, he did not provide further details about how many army personnel have been prepared to secure the end-of-the-year holiday.

He also did not divulge any details about the areas that will be the main focus of security operations during the holiday period.

Meanwhile, head of the National Police's Traffic Corps (Korlantas), Inspector General Aan Suhanan, said that the operations during the upcoming holidays will focus on three aspects.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, he informed that the first focus will be traffic congestion and accident-prone points on toll roads.

"There are several crucial spots and congestion points on toll roads. Several points are even prone to accidents. Therefore, we have prepared personnel and actions that will be taken," he said.

The second focus will be traffic conditions on crossing routes. For this, he said, his side will coordinate with PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry and all relevant stakeholders to manage traffic flow during the year-end holiday.

He informed that the third focus will be traffic conditions on arterial or urban roads and popular tourist routes.
