"We have prepared mitigation steps for potential congestion," Head of the National Police Traffic Corps, Inspector General Aan Suhanan, said here on Sunday.
Suhanan explained that his side will focus on three clusters during the holidays, namely the routes to airports and seaports, toll roads, and arterial or urban routes.
"We are mitigating access routes to crossing ports and airports, where there is a great potential for congestion," he said.
Suhanan said that several points of toll roads, including rest areas, will potentially be congested due to narrowing lanes. His side also expected some traffic jams caused by drivers stopping the car on the side of the road.
"There is also great potential for congestion in arterial roads and tourist roads, as there are more than 100 pasar tumpah (street vendors selling stuff on streets), railway crossings, and crowded points of public activities," he added.
These various mitigation steps are part of the Lilin Operation, which will be held from December 22, 2024, to January 2, 2025. The security operation is aimed at maintaining public safety and comfort during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
In addition, Suhanan said that his side will prohibit freight trucks from passing on toll roads during the operation period. Furthermore, freight trucks are only allowed to pass on arterial or urban roads from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The National Police Traffic Corps had previously held a tactical floor game (TFG) to ensure the readiness of the Lilin Operation.
