He spotlighted the prediction while referring to the survey data issued by the Transportation Policy Agency of the Ministry of Transportation.
"This number signifies a 2.8 percent increase compared to that recorded in 2023," he remarked at a meeting with Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR) in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Suhanan noted that most travelers are projected to make a trip from or within the regions of East Java, Central Java, Greater Jakarta, West Java, and North Sumatra during the year-end holiday.
According to the inspector general, East Java, Central Java, West Java, Yogyakarta, and North Sumatra will likely be the most popular destination provinces.
Suhanan then pointed out that during the holiday, most of the prospective travelers, reaching 36.07 percent, are expected to use private cars for their trips, while 17.71 percent prefer motorcycles, 15.04 percent favor bus travel, 12.85 percent opt for trains, and 8.85 percent prefer air travel.
During the period, he stated that people would embark on a journey for different purposes, with most of them reaching 45.67 percent traveling for vacation, 32.36 percent for homecoming, 19.96 percent for Christmas or New Year celebrations, and two percent for work.
Furthermore, he highlighted that the Jakarta-Merak Port, Jagorawi Toll Road, Jakarta-Cikampek, Cikampek-Cipali, and Purbaleunyi Toll Road were expected to be the hot spots of public mobility during the holiday period on Java Island.
"We will refer to these predicted numbers to decide the measures to be taken for handling vehicles moving west, east, and also south," he told lawmakers.
