President Prabowo Subianto left for Cairo from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta, on Tuesday to attend the D-8 Summit, which will be held on December 19, 2024.
"Indonesia is experienced in MSME empowerment, including digitalization. We can share it with other D-8 countries," the minister informed on Tuesday.
Hartarto said that the Summit for the Group of Eight Developing Countries (D-8 Summit) consisting of Bangladesh, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Egypt, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey, will discuss the empowerment and digitalization of MSMEs.
He noted that D-8 member countries share the same spirit regarding efforts to empower MSMEs.
In addition, all D-8 member countries are members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Unlike other groups of countries that target large investments, the D-8 group provides investors with the same opportunity in the member country region to support MSME development, Hartarto said.
"Unlike the others where the result is a relatively large investment, the D-8 carries out efforts to level the playing field for investors in the D-8 countries. In addition, it opens up market opportunities in D-8 to be utilized together," he informed.
Hartarto said that the D-8 is on the same page about facing the geopolitical situation in Gaza, Palestine, including supporting Palestinian independence.
"Because our spirit is from a developing country (perspective); we are all supporting Palestine," he added.
Egypt is currently holding the D-8 chairmanship. Indonesia will receive the baton of the D-8 chairmanship for the 2026-2027 period.
The agenda and discussions raised at the next D-8 Summit will be formulated after Indonesia officially accepts the chairmanship.
"We will formulate it after we receive the D-8 chairmanship from Egypt," Hartarto said.
