Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) Abdul Kadir Karding stated that International Migrants Day is a momentum to strengthen protection efforts for Indonesian migrant workers.

"I hope that Migrants Day can be our momentum to carry out deep reflection to find the best spirit and joint solidarity to maintain, protect, and serve our migrant workers," Minister Karding remarked after the Migrants Day commemoration event here on Wednesday.

At the event, Karding invited the Indonesian Migrant Worker Placement Companies to collaborate in strengthening the commitment to improve services and protection for migrant workers.

He assessed that placement companies must improve the migrant worker placement ecosystem to increase services and protection of migrant workers.

On the same occasion, Karding also conveyed his best wishes to migrant workers across Indonesia on the occasion of Migrants Day.

"Happy 34th Migrants Day to all of us. Hopefully, this can become the momentum to make fundamental changes for the protection and services of migrant workers," he affirmed.

He expressed hope that migrant workers would continue to make the nation proud and boost the national economy.

"You are the best people who have taken the burden of responsibility abroad. (You) have worked and fought hard to support your families and help the economy in the villages, in the regions, and our country," the minister affirmed.

In addition, Karding emphasized his ministry's efforts to eradicate groups or syndicates that exploit migrant workers by illegally dispatching them overseas.

"One of our quick win programs is to form a quick reaction team. We hope this team will prevent and thwart non-procedural departures," he remarked.
