Bandung, West Java (ANTARA) - The 8th Indonesian Conference of Zakat (ICONZ) 2024, initiated by the National Alms Agency (BAZNAS), encourages collaborative efforts to alleviate the poor, improve welfare, and strengthen partnerships.

"Hopefully, we can respond and act to alleviate poverty and prosper the people," Chairman of BAZNAS Noor Achmad remarked while opening ICONZ 2024 here on Wednesday.

Achmad highlighted that the 8th International Zakat Conference brought together global experts, policymakers, and practitioners to explore the profound impact of alms on poverty alleviation and welfare enhancement.

The conference, which took place on December 18-19 in Bandung, had the main theme, "The Zakat Contribution Towards the World Poverty Alleviation and Welfare."

The event would explore the role of zakat in boosting economic stability and social justice. Participants would have the opportunity to engage in extensive discussions, share innovative strategies, and collaborate on solutions that utilize zakat to create sustainable development.

According to Achmad, ICONZ served as a place to strengthen collaboration, exchange ideas, and develop new strategies for facing the challenges of solving poverty and social injustices.

"The conference also serves as a platform to highlight successful zakat initiatives, showcase groundbreaking research, and promote best practices in zakat management and distribution," he elaborated.

He expected a collective action plan to be born by gathering leaders and stakeholders from various backgrounds at the event.

In addition, the conference can serve as a bridge to build partnerships that will strengthen the role of zakat in building a more just and prosperous world for all.

Several zakat activists from Malaysia, the Philippines, Cambodia, Brunei Darussalam, Myanmar, and Jordan also participated in the event to provide perspectives on zakat governance in each country.
