Jakarta (ANTARA) - Primary and Secondary Education Minister Abdul Mu'ti stated that his office awaits President Prabowo Subianto's instruction before proceeding with the plan to collaborate with the Public Works Ministry in the school renovation program.

He said that the presidential instruction would allow the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to take part in the execution of the program, which will target the renovation of 10 thousand schools next year.

"We are awaiting the issuance of a presidential instruction since the existing regulation mandates school renovation to the Public Works Ministry. It is certain that we will partake in the program if Mr. President gives an order," he remarked in Jakarta on Thursday.

Mu'ti noted that the ministry would continue working according to its primary objectives if the head of state nixes the instruction.

Mu'ti observed that the issuance of the presidential instruction would lead not only to the acceleration of school renovation but also to the growth of local economies, considering that renovation projects will surely entail the procurement of materials from local stores and the employment of local residents.

Furthermore, the minister highlighted that the instruction would enable his office to help ensure the on-point implementation of the school renovation program by directly distributing the renovation funds to the targeted schools.

He added that school operators would thus be able to manage the funds for the renovation and rehabilitation of their institutions according to the actual needs.

Mu'ti remarked that his ministry had collected complete data on the schools targeted for renovation while noting that the government prefers rejuvenating schools to building new structures next year in pursuit of technical efficiency.
