Surabaya, East Java (ANTARA) - The movement of people during the year-end holidays in East Java is predicted to reach 110 million, according to the regional police.

"The Transportation Ministry's survey show that East Java is the top departure area and destination for people's mobility," said Senior Commissioner Komarudin, the East Java Regional Police traffic director, during the Operation Lilin Semeru 2024 preparation meeting on Friday.

According to the survey, the movement of people in the province is expected to increase by 2.82 percent during the year-end holidays, reaching 110 million from 107 million.

"This is what we have anticipated; we are carrying out preemptive and preventive stages," Komarudin said.

He stated that 18,503 personnel have been assigned to Operation Lilin Semeru, comprising 950 personnel from the East Java Regional Police, 10,236 from local police, and 7,317 from related agencies. Another 150 personnel will be deployed at security posts and 44 personnel at service posts.

"Security posts manned by personnel from related agencies, including the Armed Forces, the National Police, and others, are expected to provide services to the community during the Christmas and New Year celebrations," he said.

He said that the police had anticipated the risk of accidents by conducting ramp checks.

"We have conducted a ramp check and issued appeals to bus and truck operators. The personnel will also anticipate the surge in numbers of vehicles that is predicted to occur tomorrow (December 21)," he added.

Additionally, security personnel will monitor areas prone to traffic congestion and disasters.
