Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has banned former minister of law and human rights Yasonna H. Laoly from leaving Indonesia for further questioning regarding a parliamentary electoral bribery case involving long-time fugitive Harun Masiku.

This travel ban also applies to Secretary-General of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Hasto Kristiyanto, who has been announced as a new suspect in the aforementioned case that dates back to the aftermath of the 2019 elections.

"On December 24, 2024, the KPK issued Decree No. 1757 of 2024 concerning the enforcement of an overseas travel ban against two Indonesian nationals, identified with the initials YHL and HK," KPK spokesperson Tessa Mahardhika stated in Jakarta on Wednesday (December 25).

He noted that the two figures should remain in Indonesia for the next six months to allow the KPK to gather more information on the bribery case from them.

The case is centered on a collusion among some figures to secure a berth at the House of Representatives (DPR) for Harun Masiku, a PDIP cadre, following the death of an elected legislator from the same party, Nazarudin Kiemas.

Earlier, in a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday (Dec 24), the anti-graft body named PDIP's Hasto Kristiyanto and advocate Donny Tri Istiqomah as new suspects in the corruption crime.

KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto remarked that Hasto has been suspected of pushing Donny to obtain and deliver a bribe to a former General Election Commission (KPU) official, Wahyu Setiawan, through Agustiani Tio Fridelina, a former PDIP cadre and ex-member of the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu).

Fridelina was among the participants of the 2029 legislative elections.

The KPK leader underlined that Hasto has allegedly colluded with other suspects to bribe Setiawan and Fridelina with 19 thousand Singapore dollars and US$38,350 between December 16 and 23, 2019.

Masiku has been on the wanted list since January 17, 2020, due to his persistent avoidance of the KPK's summons.

Meanwhile, bribery recipient Setiawan has been released on parole after serving a seven-year prison sentence. He was incarcerated in a prison in Semarang, Central Java.
