"Today, our team has checked the preparation for the B40 implementation and we have seen for ourselves the readiness of the fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) industry as a biofuel," he said while reviewing Pertamina Refinery Unit II in Dumai, Riau, according to a statement issued on Saturday.
He informed that an estimated 15.6 million kiloliters of biodiesel will be required for the B40 program every year.
As biodiesel will be distributed to many parts of Indonesia, the availability of raw materials and supply chains has become a top priority of the program.
He further explained that challenges in implementing B40 are not only related to the availability of raw materials, but also the nation's diverse geographical conditions.
"Thus, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is open to inputs from various business entities to ensure the smooth implementation of B40," Yuliot added.
"We expect inputs from Pertamina Patra Niaga and other business entities regarding the challenges of implementing B40," he said, referring to a subsidiary of state-owned energy company Pertamina.
"For example, areas such as Dumai, which are relatively hot, or highland areas with cooler temperatures, are there any impacts that need to be prepared by both Pertamina and business entities that will implement the B40 mandate (will need to be considered)," he expounded.
The Indonesian government is continuing to prepare for the implementation of the mandatory B40 program as part of efforts to achieve energy security, while supporting green and sustainable energy sources.
The policy is in line with President Prabowo Subianto's Asta Cita vision, which sets food and energy security as national priorities.
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources will start implementing the B40 program from January 1, 2025, with the target of producing 15.62 million kiloliters of B40.
B40 is a mixture of 60 percent diesel fuel and 40 percent biofuel from palm oil.
