Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Agriculture's Directorate General of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health (PKH) is collaborating with regional animal husbandry services to prevent Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) through simultaneous mass vaccination.

"We have distributed the FMD vaccine and carried out vaccinations in several regions. The vaccination aims to prevent the spread of FMD and maintain livestock health," head of the Surabaya Veterinary Center (BBVF), Edy Budi Susila, noted in a statement from his office on Tuesday.

Susila explained that his party produced the FMD vaccine being distributed, which had been tested and approved to control FMD in Indonesia.

He revealed that the vaccine distribution amounts to two thousand bottles, equating to 50 thousand doses to various regions, including East Java, Central Java, West Java, Banten, Special Region of Yogyakarta, DKI Jakarta, and Lampung.

The vaccine had been distributed on December 28-29, 2024.

In addition to vaccination, the ministry provided assistance in the form of medicines, antibiotics, and disinfectants to help farmers overcome other potential diseases.

Director General of PKH, Agung Suganda, earlier emphasized the need to enhance preparedness for the potential rise in animal diseases.

According to Suganda, livestock health is an important factor in supporting the increase in national livestock production.

The director general underscored the need for vaccination to maintain livestock health and prevent the transmission of diseases, including FMD.

"Animal disease control is necessary to support animal food security and strengthen the livestock subsector in Indonesia," he noted on December 27.

The Agriculture Ministry also opened a Task Force Hotline for reporting animal diseases at 0811-1182-7889. People who find cases of animal disease can immediately report them.

According to the statement, synergy between the Ministry of Agriculture, animal drug producers, the Animal Husbandry Service, and other stakeholders is key to overcoming the FMD outbreak.

Through solid cooperation, the spread of FMD can be brought under control and improve the contribution of livestock to the national economy.

"Let us synergize to prevent FMD transmission and maintain livestock health for a better future for livestock," Suganda remarked.
