Hafid also expressed deep condolences over the passing of the senior journalist.
"Atmakusumah Asraatmadja is a figure who had a high dedication to press freedom, journalistic ethics, and the development of quality journalists in Indonesia. He was not only a senior journalist, but also a mentor to many generations of journalists," she said in a ministry release received here on Friday.
According to the minister, Asraatmadja was one of the visionary leaders of the Press Council. He played an important role in the fight for press independence and in encouraging the birth of policies that strengthened journalistic professionalism.
Asraatmadja is considered to have contributed greatly to building an ethical and responsible press ecosystem.
Meanwhile, Minister Hafid stressed the importance of continuing the values that Asraatmadja fought for.
"His work and dedication is a legacy for all of us. I invite all media workers to take his spirit and integrity as inspiration in carrying out journalistic duties," she said.
As one of the figures who guarded press freedom after the Reform era, Asraatmadja played a role in ensuring that the Press Council serves as an institution that maintains the balance between freedom of expression and social responsibility, one of the democracy pillars.
Hafid also highlighted Asraatmadja's struggles that are still relevant to the current challenges of the press ecosystem, such as facing digital disruption.
"Amidst the technological developments and digital challenges, the ethical and professional values instilled by Asraatmadja are very important to be preserved," she said.
