B40 is a mixture of 60 percent diesel fuel and 40 percent biofuel derived from palm oil.
Tanjung said here on Friday that B40 use has been made mandatory from January 1, 2025, however, the program is still in the transition phase, which will last for about 1.5 months.
He explained that during the transition period, the remaining fuel stocks will be used up and technology will be adjusted.
Tanjung further said that the production in the first phase of the B40 program will reach 15.6 million kiloliters, which will be carried out in stages until the end of the year.
"It will be gradual until the end of the year (2025)," he affirmed.
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is targeting to complete the regulation regarding the implementation of the B40 biodiesel program this week.
After attending a meeting here on Thursday, Tanjung said that the ministerial decree is currently in the consolidation stage after field checks, which were held for several days before the New Year.
The government is continuing to prepare for the implementation of the B40 program this year as part of efforts to achieve energy security, and at the same time, support a green and sustainable Indonesia.
This step is in line with President Prabowo Subianto's Asta Cita goals, under which, food and energy security are a national priority.
State-run oil and gas company PT Pertamina (Persero) has prepared two main refineries to support B40 production: Refinery Unit III Plaju in Palembang, South Sumatra, and Refinery Unit VII Kasim in Papua.
The mixing of diesel fuel with biofuel will be carried out by Pertamina's subholding PT Pertamina Patra Niaga.
