The government is optimistic that on-time and more targeted fertiliser distribution will significantly bolster the productivity of the national agriculture sector
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman on Sunday attributed the government's success in distributing subsidised fertilisers to Indonesian farmers this year to President Prabowo Subianto's stimulus and support for pro-farmer policies.

"The President provided many stimuli to ensure the fulfilment of all farmers' needs, including in the simplification of subsidised fertiliser redemption and its prudent allocation," Sulaiman stated in his written statement.

This year, the government successfully distributed subsidised fertiliser on time on January 1, 2025, a feat he considered "historic", as past distributions were often delayed due to varied issues.

The minister said that President Prabowo is cognisant that Indonesian farmers keenly expected the subsidised fertiliser to be distributed on time.

"Starting from January 1, 2025, Indonesian farmers can obtain the subsidised fertiliser at affordable prices at official stores," Sulaiman said.

For 2025, the ministry allocated 9.5 million tonnes of subsidised fertilisers, which comprised 4.6 million tonnes of urea fertiliser, 4.2 million tonnes of NPK fertiliser, 500 thousand tonnes of organic fertiliser, and 147,000 tonnes of cacao NPK fertiliser.

The subsidised fertilisers are distributed to farmers managing food crops, horticulture, and plantation commodities, while their quota is capped to equal a maximum of two hectares of coverage.

The government is optimistic that on-time and more targeted fertiliser distribution will significantly bolster the productivity of the national agriculture sector, he said.

"It is not about the fertiliser but is about the future of Indonesia's food resilience. With the on-time provision of (subsidised) fertiliser this year, farmers can start their farming season more confidently," Sulaiman remarked.

The ministry noted that farmers benefit from on-time distribution and its smooth process. For instance, Ridwan, a farmer in Yogyakarta, highlighted the ease of obtaining the fertiliser.

"On January 1, 2024, I redeemed my subsidised fertiliser with only my personal ID card, and the process is smooth," he said, adding that he no longer needs to present his farmers' card to get his fertiliser.

Meanwhile, Wiyono, another farmer from Prambanan, Yogyakarta, who also got his fertiliser on January 1, expressed hope that secured fertiliser for farmers will help enhance farming production for national food self-sufficiency.
