Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Ministry of Forestry, on Monday (January 6) evening, received a visit from the Forestry Faculty of the Agriculture Institute of Bogor (IPB) to explore the potential for cooperation in environmental and forestry preservation.

"Good public policies are essential. Hence, it is crucial for the government to forge cooperation with various parties, including universities. Note that policymakers in developed countries receive inputs from various parties to formulate strategies," Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni stated.

According to the ministry's statement cited here on Tuesday, the meeting addressed various potential areas for cooperation, such as adopting a smart forestry approach to monitor forest fire risks and developing systems supportive of food security and environmental protection.

The Forestry Ministry and IPB also assessed the possibility of cooperating in the management of Forest Area with Special Purpose (KHDTK) and the conservation of biodiversity.

"I believe that we can collaborate on a wide range of initiatives associated with complex issues that require cooperation to deal with. We can cooperate in smart forestry and KHDTK, for instance," Antoni stated.

On that note, the minister instructed his aides to further assess the potential for cooperation between the ministry and the institute.

Meanwhile, Dean of the Forestry Faculty of IPB Naresworo Nugroho affirmed that his side is ready to leverage its expertise in forest-related issues to assist the Ministry of Forestry in conserving forest areas.

"We are ready to cooperate, as we are well aware that collaboration with all relevant parties is of the essence to deal with complex, far-reaching forestry issues," he emphasized.

The dean also underscored the significance of making the forestry sector more appealing to the Indonesian youth.
