"As a country with an ever-growing and diverse economy, Indonesia is committed to actively contributing to the BRICS agenda on economic resilience, technology cooperation, and sustainable development," the ministry noted in its written statement.
Indonesia aims to fulfill its role within BRICS by addressing global challenges, such as climate change, food resilience, and public health, while striving for an inclusive and just global order.
Indonesia is also fully dedicated to "working with all BRICS members and other parties for a just, peaceful, and prosperous world."
According to the Foreign Ministry, Indonesia's accession to the BRICS reflects the country's increasingly active global involvement and is a momentum for bolstering multilateral cooperation.
"Indonesia viewed its BRICS membership as a strategic step to enhance collaboration and cooperation with developing countries with the principles of equality, mutual respect, and sustainable development," the Foreign Ministry stated.
Indonesia also perceives the BRICS as an important platform for strengthening South-South cooperation and ensuring that the voices and aspirations of the Global South are heard and represented in decision-making processes on the global stage.
Regarding Indonesia's accession to BRICS as a full member, the Foreign Ministry expressed gratitude to Russia for chairing the bloc in 2024 and Brazil for its leadership in 2025.
"Indonesia is ready to participate constructively in various BRICS initiatives for the interest of the global community," the ministry stated, reiterating that the country's participation in BRICS aligns with Indonesia's constitutional values.
Brazil, the 2025 BRICS chair, officially recognized Indonesia as the bloc's newest full member on Monday (Jan 6).
In its press release, the Brazilian government congratulated Indonesia on its accession to BRICS and commended the country's support for priority issues brought up during Brazil's chairmanship this year.
