Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Social Affairs handed over logistical assistance on Monday to people affected by the recent tornado in Subang district, West Java.

“The Ministry of Social Affairs handed over the logistics from the warehouse at the Subang Social Affairs Office and the warehouse at the Inten Suweno Social Center in Bogor,” Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf informed in an official statement issued by the ministry here on Tuesday.

The total value of the assistance stood at Rp138.2 million or around US$8,500.

The assistance distributed from the Subang Social Office warehouse included 200 instant food packages, 24 packages of children’s food, 20 family kits, 20 packages of kidswear, 90 blankets, 10 mattresses, and 30 rolled tents.

There was also additional assistance consisting of 80 packages of children’s food, 20 family kits, 20 packages of kidswear, 160 blankets, 90 mattresses, and 20 rolled tents.

Subang district in West Java was struck by a twister on Sunday (January 5, 2025). The tornado was accompanied by heavy rainfall, strong winds, and lightning. The roofs of several homes were blown off and the walls of some houses were damaged in the disaster.

There were no fatalities.

“The Ministry of Social Affairs, through the Disaster Preparedness Cadets (Tagana), along with the social informed office, has collected data and conducted assessments of the victims and their houses,” Yusuf said.

His side reported that as many as 59 houses have been affected by the tornado, with the level of damage ranging from minor to severe.

The damaged houses are located in Parigimulya village, Cipunagara sub-district; Kalensari village, Compreng sub-district; Cigugur village, Pusakajaya sub-district; and Sujamelang village, Kasomalang sub-district.
