The signing was conducted between Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) Maruarar Sirait and Qatari investor Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al Thani and witnessed by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday.
This funding initiative operates under a Government-to-Government scheme, marking Qatar as the first foreign investor to contribute to President Prabowo Subianto's priority program of building three million houses for MBR annually.
Deputy Minister of PKP Fahri Hamzah earlier stated that Indonesia has secured funding for one million houses from Qatar.
Hamzah said he sought permission to leave the meeting to attend the MoU signing between Indonesia and Qatar.
He made the remarks when met on the sidelines of a meeting with Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) in Jakarta on Wednesday.
"I happened to be invited to the Palace to witness the signing of the MoU for funding for one million houses, so I asked permission first. Funding from Qatar," Hamzah remarked.
Under Prabowo Subianto's leadership, housing development is a key component among 17 priority programs.
The head of state targets that the government will annually build three million houses for the community, especially for citizens from the lower middle class, ensuring decent housing for them.
