Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Directorate General of Immigration has arrested TJC, an American fugitive sought by US Marshals for charges related to sexual exploitation, attempted child exploitation, and child pornography.

Director of Immigration Supervision and Enforcement, Senior Commissioner Yuldi Yusman, reported that the arrest was made at the Class I Non-TPI Tangerang Immigration Office when TJC was applying for a visit permit extension.

"Based on the cyber patrol carried out by the investigation team, TJC's whereabouts were identified through the online residence permit extension system. The joint team immediately secured him," Yusman noted in a press conference on Thursday.

He explained that the arrest was made on December 30, 2024, following a thorough investigation by the Directorate General of Immigration Investigation Team and intensive coordination with the US Embassy.

TJC faces multiple serious charges, comprising sexual exploitation and attempted sexual exploitation of a minor, in violation of Article 18 of the United States Code (USC), Sections 2251 (a) and 2251 (e). These charges involve producing child sexual exploitation material.

He has also been charged with possession of child pornography material, in violation of Article 18 of the USC, Sections 2252A (a)(5)(B) and 2252A (b)(2), which involves storing or possessing explicit images of minors with the intent of distribution or for personal use.

Yusman noted that TJC entered Indonesian territory on December 4, 2024.

On December 18, 2024, Immigration received information from the US Embassy regarding TJC's passport revocation, which rendered his status invalid.

Yusman emphasized that his side would continue to step up supervision of foreigners in Indonesia, especially those suspected of being involved in international crimes.

On the same occasion, Acting Director General of Immigration, Saffar Muhammad Godam, stated that TJC was being transferred to the Immigration detention room for further examination.

Immigration authorities are also coordinating with the US Embassy regarding the next steps in legal proceedings.

According to Godam, this step is a manifestation of the Immigration's commitment to upholding legal integrity and protecting Indonesia from perpetrators of international crimes.

"Close cooperation with various parties, including the US Embassy, has supported this process," he remarked.
