Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Directorate General of Immigration of the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections arrested 12 Vietnamese women in the Muara Karang area, North Jakarta, over suspicion they were offering commercial sex.

The 12 Vietnamese nationals, suspected to be prostitutes and ladies companions (LC), made a visa-free entry into Indonesia and obtained a tourist visa-on-arrival.

"Their action violated Article 122 of Law Number 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration," the director of immigration supervision and enforcement, Senior Commissioner Yuldi Yusman, informed at a press conference in Jakarta on Friday.

According to Yusman, the 12 women will be subject to administrative immigration action in the form of deportation. They will also be put on the deterrent list for two years, he added.

He informed that they were arrested after a public report was submitted to the Directorate of Immigration Supervision and Enforcement, which was followed by a month-long investigation by the immigration authorities.

Based on the results of the investigation, Immigration officers conducted a raid on Thursday, during which they found the 12 Vietnamese women.

"Their rate for one date per person is Rp5.6 million (US$340)," Yusman informed.

He said that they had been in Indonesia for about a month.

For further investigation, the Directorate of Immigration Supervision and Enforcement is currently developing the case to uncover a wider network.

In addition, the Indonesian government will coordinate with the Vietnamese government regarding law enforcement against the 12 women, Yusman said.

"In Indonesia, they are subject to immigration administrative violation by being deported. For further processing in Vietnam, we will coordinate with the local authorities there," he added.
