According to a statement received from the president's secretariat in Jakarta on Friday, PM Ishiba and his wife Yoshiko landed at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten, at 5 p.m. local time on Friday for a two-day official visit.
Upon his arrival at the airport, the Japanese head of government was welcomed by several Indonesian and Japanese officials.
They included Indonesian Investment and Downstreaming Minister Rosan Roeslani; Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia, Masaki Yasushi; Indonesian Ambassador to Japan, Heri Akhmadi; and Banten acting governor Ucok Damenta.
A guard of honor, marching band, and traditional dancers were also welcomed the Japanese top official.
On Saturday, Ishiba will first visit the Kalibata National Heroes Cemetery in South Jakarta to pay his respect to Indonesian heroes and lay a wreath before proceeding to the Bogor Presidential Palace, where he will get a state welcome around 10 a.m. local time.
Thereafter, Prabowo and Ishiba are set to hold a bilateral meeting to explore viable steps to further strengthen their countries' harmonious relations.
After wrapping up the meeting, the Japanese PM will return to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in the afternoon, concluding his state visit to Indonesia.
Ishiba chose Indonesia as one of his countries of destination following his inauguration as Japan's head of government on October 1 last year. He visited Malaysia on January 9–10 to meet his Malaysian counterpart, Anwar Ibrahim.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, Indonesian Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin met with his Japanese counterpart Gen Nakatani to discuss preparations for the Prabowo-Ishiba meeting.
