Bandung (ANTARA) - Indonesia's National Alms Agency (Baznas) awarded special scholarships to a total of 60 Islamic school students with hearing disabilities at the Rumah Quran Isyaroh Foundation in Bandung City, West Java.

Baznas head Noor Achmad noted that the scholarship program was expected to serve as the initial step toward enhancing the education and Quran recitation skills of deaf people.

"This program is designed to contribute to the realization of the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision, where all citizens, including those with disabilities, have the same right to enjoy quality education services," he remarked in Bandung on Saturday.

Achmad also extended his appreciation to the foundation for its dedication to guiding deaf children to read and comprehend the Quran.

"Hopefully, this program will bring benefits to all of us, and I hope that what the Rumah Quran Isyaroh Foundation has done serves as a true example of fighting in the path of God," he stated.

On the same occasion, the state philanthropic agency also launched the Love for Disabilities Movement, which is expected to inspire and motivate more individuals and groups to show their care for people with disabilities, especially in the education sector.

Data from Statistics Indonesia shows that Indonesia is home to over 22 million persons with disabilities.

On that note, Achmad highlighted that collaboration among stakeholders is key to ensuring equal access to education for this vulnerable group.

He argued that ensuring accessible quality education is paramount for Indonesia to help its disabled citizens overcome poverty and underdevelopment.
