Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Alms Agency (Baznas) and the King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC) in Jordan signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to distribute humanitarian aid worth Rp2 billion (US$120 thousand) for the Palestinian community in Jordan.

"This cooperation with KHCC Jordan will last for three years to help patients from Gaza currently being treated at the KHCC Hospital in Jordan," Baznas' Head of Fundraising, Rizaludin Kurniawan, noted in a statement on Tuesday.

According to Kurniawan, this cooperation is a concrete step to support the Palestinian community.

Baznas' head affirmed that the cooperation is also expected to contribute significantly to the Palestinian community's welfare.

KHCC, as a hospital under the auspices of the Jordanian Royal Foundation, is considered adequate to accommodate patients and their families from Gaza, he remarked.

"However, they also need funding participation from all donors, including Indonesia. Therefore, some of the aid funds for Gaza from our community will be deposited at KHCC," he explained.

Kurniawan then thanked all parties, especially donors who had shown their concern for the Palestinian people.

In addition to money, Baznas also sent 114 care packages of stationery, toys, and pocket money for Palestinian children undergoing cancer treatment at the hospital.

Meanwhile, Head of the Local Corporate of KHCC Jordan, Madeleine el-Sallag, welcomed the cooperation in distributing humanitarian aid for Palestine with Baznas.

Her side had so far handled 300 patients from Gaza, with most of them being cancer patients.

"We brought these patients and their families from Gaza with the assistance of the Jordanian military and kingdom. We are open to donors, especially Baznas Indonesia, to work with us in handling patients from Gaza," she remarked.

Based on Baznas' data as of November, the agency stated that the total humanitarian aid collected for Palestine had reached Rp318.9 billion(US$19 million).
