Bandung, West Java (ANTARA) - The National Alms Agency (Baznas) is targeting to collect Rp41 trillion (around US$2.5 billion) in zakat, infaq, and alms (ZIS) from regional Baznas and other zakat institutions (LAZ) by the end of the year.

Chairperson of the agency, Noor Achmad, said here on Wednesday that so far, Baznas has collected around Rp30 trillion. However, the figure is expected to increase considering that the agency is still awaiting reports from regional zakat management agencies and LAZs.

"The national collection from all regions until now has reached around Rp30 trillion. Our target is Rp41 trillion, but so far, only Rp31 trillion has been reported, and the report process is still running. All of the reports may be completed by the beginning of 2025," he informed.

Achmad said that Baznas itself has managed to collect more than Rp1 trillion in zakat against the target of Rp1.2 trillion. Just like the national target, he is optimistic that the agency's own target will be achieved by the end of this year.

The largest share of zakat, or 40 percent, is used to alleviate poverty through various empowerment programs, he added.

Meanwhile, other than poverty alleviation programs, Baznas also distributes zakat to other sectors such as health, as one of the agency's priorities to support President Prabowo Subianto's Asta Cita programs to reduce stunting in Indonesia.

"This is a joint program or collaboration. We know that infaq and alms can be used for anyone in Indonesia," he said.

He noted that public awareness on giving alms is very high, adding that the community's interest in giving zakat has been increasing by up to 30 percent every year.
