"Other than in Sidoarjo, other stadiums in East Java are also currently undergoing renovation to meet FIFA standards," he stated here on Monday.
They are Gelora Joko Samudro in Gresik, Surajaya Stadium in Lamongan, Gelora Madura Ratu Pamelingan in Pamekasan, and Kanjuruhan Stadium in Malang.
The minister said that the renovations are being carried out to improve the security and comfort of spectators, following the 2022 Kanjuruhan Stadium stampede.
During his visit to Gelora Delta Stadium in Sidoarjo, Yudhoyono praised the quality improvements made at the stadium, which he described as a source of pride for the people of Sidoarjo.
He pointed out that all spectator benches have been replaced with single-seater folding benches, which would allow over 19 thousand spectators to be seated during one match.
In addition, a special section has been designated for spectators with disabilities to ensure their comfort and convenience.
He further noted that Gelora Delta Stadium has improved its security and evacuation system, with multiple entry and exit points, which would allow spectators to be evacuated quickly and efficiently in case of emergencies.
Gelora Delta Stadium will host a mini tournament from January 24, 2025, featuring the U-20 National Team and teams from India, Jordan, and Syria.
"This will serve as a benchmark to assess the Gelora Delta Stadium's preparedness for hosting international events," Yudhoyono said.
