“Without the government’s support, this integrated industrial area would not have developed rapidly, which is marked by the number of employees who has reached more than 80,000 and has made a significant contribution to improving the economy of North Maluku,” Binghe said.
He mentioned that Roeslani is the third minister to visit the Weda Bay project in the past three months.
During the visit, Binghe apprised Roeslani of the various processed nickel products made in the area. The minister also visited various infrastructure and facilities, including the power plant, port, PT Huafei, and PT Huaneng.
PT Huafei is a company operating in the Weda Bay project area, which is running the largest high-pressure acid leaching (HPAL) project globally.
PT Huaneng will export nickel precursors to North America and Europe in 2025.
Indonesia is the world’s largest nickel producer, controlling 42 percent of global reserves.
In addition to nickel, the government aims to downstream coal and mineral commodities to help Indonesia achieve its economic growth target of 8 percent this year.
Based on the Strategic Investment Downstreaming Road Map, the government has projected a total investment of US$618 billion, which will be allocated across 28 downstream commodities.
Approximately 91 percent of the investment will focus on the energy and mineral resources sector, particularly on coal, mineral commodities, and oil and gas.
